In 2020, KAS took a significant step towards sustainability by transitioning away from PVC plastic bags. We made a conscious decision to switch to fabric bags, crafted from the same fabric as our Quilt Covers and European Pillowcases. This change not only reduced our PVC plastic consumption but also served as a beautiful and reusable packaging solution for our customers. Designed to be practical, these bags can be reused as storage solutions, organising your closet, beautiful gift bags or even fruit and vegetable bags for your next shopping trip.
As we continue to make progress, we are actively phasing out the remaining PVC packaging on some of our previous product ranges. If you happen to receive our previous plastic packaging with your order, we encourage you to contribute to our sustainability efforts by first reusing or recycling it responsibly with your local soft plastics recycling program.
In 2023, we are taking further steps to reimagine our quilt cover packaging. We are working with our manufacturers to remove the need for buttons on our fabric bags and to reduce the amount of card required across our products. Keep an eye out for these revamped packaging designs that reflect our continued commitment to prioritising sustainable practices at KAS.
We Pack with Impact!
In 2022, we are proud to have begun our partnership with Better Packaging Co where we designed custom mailing satchels with the use of their innovative POLLAST!C™ material. Our new POLLAST!C™ packaging is better at every stage of its lifecycle. Made from 100% Ocean-Bound Plastic Pollution, @BetterPackagingCo rescues plastic from coastal communities in Southeast Asia before it reaches the ocean. Using a low energy, low impact process, our mailers are designed to protect your goods in transit whilst also making a positive impact on the planet and its people. The new satchels feature a double adhesive strip for reusability and can be recycled through your local soft plastics recycling scheme.Learn More About POLLAST!C Here
As part of our ongoing commitment, KAS has implemented additional sustainability practices in our distribution and shipping processes. We are transitioning to FSC certified 100% recycled cardboard box packaging and switching to biodegradable packing tape to reduce our reliance on virgin materials. We have embraced compostable shipping labels, ensuring that even the smallest details contribute towards a greener future. The backing liners of these labels are sent back to be made into new liners and labels, helping to minimise waste and promote the circular economy.
Closing the loop on Textile waste
We have teamed up with leading textile recycling company, Upparel. This partnership enables us and our customers to de-clutter our homes and reduce textile waste. Upparel collects and sorts unwanted textiles, donating fit-for-wear clothing to charity partners and not-for-profits. Where clothing is no longer fit-for-wear, Upparel gives them a second life transforming them into new materials used for cushion filling, insulation and furniture to name a few. By diverting textiles from landfill we can reduce our environmental impact and support a more circular approach to fashion and homewares.Recycle Your Textiles Today
